I always love this time of year because it’s a great time to take a moment to plot out your goals for the year ahead. And I have the perfect tool to get you there: a template so you can create your own Leadership Development Plan for 2023.
What is a Leadership Development Plan (LDP)?
It’s a plan that spells out your goals to enhance your development as a leader. It includes specific action steps to achieve them and metrics for success. Some examples of goals are:
- Shifting from a tactical to more strategic approach
- Communicating a consistent inspirational vision to your team
- Fostering accountability amongst cross-functional teams
- Getting comfortable initiating difficult conversations
Why Create an LDP?
Identifying your top goals creates focus and intentionality that can fuel your momentum toward achieving them. New leaders will need to adjust to greater responsibility and learn new skills. Mid-career leaders are expected to create higher value for their organizations and drive performance in a fast-changing environment. Senior leaders must be able to identify the right business opportunities, drive innovation, and lead with conviction and inspiration.
Periodically assessing and evaluating how you are progressing toward your goals can also result in greater career satisfaction and create opportunities for career advancement.
How Can You Create an LDP?
I have created an LDP template that you can use just for this purpose. There is a section to identify your goals, action steps, and desired outcomes. Email me to request your Leadership Development Plan template today.
Some leaders are able to identify their goals and create an LDP on their own. Others struggle with this process. I’ve found that the leaders who create the best plans are the ones who partner with a professional coach to build theirs.
